Export Markets

Himalayan Salt Supplier β€” North America

We ship Himalayan pink salt to importers, food manufacturers, private label brands, and distributors across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from our BRCGS Grade AA certified facility in Pakistan. Three markets, three regulatory regimes, and three labelling languages between them β€” FDA for the US, CFIA with mandatory bilingual labelling for Canada, COFEPRIS and NOM-051 for Mexico. We prepare the documentation each requires.

What North American Buyers Order Most

Edible salt dominates across all three markets, and grinder granules are the single highest-volume line we ship into the region. Bulk rock salt supplies repackers and processors. Table grades serve retail packing and foodservice. Bath salt and salt soap serve a North American wellness retail sector that has grown faster than almost anywhere. Cooking blocks have moved from novelty into mainstream kitchenware and restaurant supply.

Three Markets, Three Regulatory Regimes

North America has no shared import framework for food comparable to the EU’s. USMCA governs trade between the three countries, but it does not harmonise their treatment of imports from outside the bloc, so a product specified for the United States is not automatically acceptable in Canada or Mexico. The differences are substantial enough to affect packaging design, not just paperwork.

The United States places the verification burden on the importer through the Foreign Supplier Verification Program, requires FDA facility registration from the exporter, and uses its own Nutrition Facts format. Canada requires a Safe Food for Canadians licence held by the importer, a preventive control plan supported by supplier evidence, and mandatory English and French labelling β€” the requirement that most often forces a packaging redesign rather than a translation. Mexico requires COFEPRIS sanitary registration and NOM-051 labelling in Spanish.

The US GSP programme lapsed in December 2020 and has not been renewed, so Pakistani-origin goods enter the United States at standard duty rates. Budget on that basis rather than assuming a preference exists.

North American Markets We Serve

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
United States
FSVP Β· New York Β· Los Angeles

The largest single market for Himalayan salt anywhere, and the most crowded. Pink salt has been on US shelves long enough that buyers are won on consistency, documentation, and landed cost rather than on the story. FSVP places verification on the importer of record, and a supplier who cannot produce GFSI-recognised certification, an audit summary, and a coherent hazard analysis is effectively unusable to a serious US importer regardless of price. Karachi to New York runs 28–35 days, Los Angeles 30–40. Four distinct channels β€” grocery private label, Amazon and DTC, foodservice, and specialty retail β€” want different grades, packs, and paperwork.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
Canada
SFC Licence Β· Montreal Β· Vancouver

A tenth the population of the United States, and the bilingual labelling requirement is the defining constraint. English and French on the label is not a translation exercise bolted onto existing artwork β€” it changes available label real estate, which changes the design and occasionally the packaging format. Importers who discover this after artwork approval lose weeks. The importer holds a Safe Food for Canadians licence and must evidence supplier controls through a preventive control plan. Karachi to Montreal runs 30–38 days, Vancouver 32–42. Order sizes are often sub-container for a year or more, which excludes suppliers built only around full loads.

πŸ‡²πŸ‡½
Mexico
COFEPRIS Β· NOM-051 Β· Manzanillo

Mexico requires COFEPRIS sanitary registration before import and NOM-051 labelling in Spanish, covering nutrition declaration, ingredient list, and front-of-pack warning seals where applicable. Karachi to Manzanillo runs 35–45 days on the Pacific side; Veracruz serves the Gulf coast and the central corridor. Mexico is growing quickly as both a consumer market and a manufacturing base supplying US brands, and Spanish-language artwork developed for Mexico also serves Spain, Colombia, and Ecuador β€” one investment across four markets.

Bulk Pink Salt Supply for North America

North America is the largest consumer region for Himalayan salt and the one where the gap between a serious supplier and a plausible one is most visible. Both the US and Canadian regimes place the verification burden on the importer, which means your supplier’s documentation is not a courtesy β€” it is the evidence underpinning your own regulatory position. An importer who cannot evidence that their foreign supplier operates an adequate food safety system is exposed in a way no price advantage compensates for.

That changes what buyers should be comparing. The cheapest quote in this category almost always reflects looser grading, mixed sourcing, or documentation that has not been prepared, and the cost of that surfaces later β€” at an audit, at a retailer’s quality query, or at a border. Comparing on landed cost against a stated specification, with the documentation set itemised, resolves the picture quickly.

The three markets also reward different things. The United States rewards channel fit, because grocery, Amazon, foodservice, and specialty retail each want a different product. Canada rewards packaging competence, because bilingual labelling sits on the critical path to a listing. Mexico rewards patience through registration, and then opens into a market growing faster than either of its neighbours.
